At this moment, it is only possible to use classes inside the kernel for fetching function limitation options, because 'kernel/' is prepended in <i>kernel/role/policyedit.php</i> at line 86.

It would be nice if the full path info was moved to the limitation arrays in $FunctionList in module.php. By doing this, extensions can tell the role module to use a class in an extension to fetch function limitation options.
