The REST functional test cases in eZ/Bundle/EzPublishRestBundle/Tests/Functional currently use HTTP basic auth.

Benefits

Since PlatformUI uses session based authentication, as would any web application, it would make more sense to use it in those tests as well. Furthermore, it would allow us to cover csrf token and login.
