This bug may be related to:

Maybe the problem is PHP 5.5.3? Didn't tested with other versions.

Steps to reproduce:

In ubuntu 13.10, with apache2, mysql and php installed with all extensions listed in https://confluence.ez.no/display/EZP52/Requirements

Try to install ez publish from github and run the setup, it will not generate the correct setting files.

Edited: Checked my log and found this:

I'm using http://packages.ez.no/ezpublish/5.2/5.2.0 package repository.

Edited 2: Same error when trying to install using http://packages.ez.no/ezpublish/5.1/5.1.0

Edited 3: If I use the plain site package it terminates with a database connection error:

Unable to connect to the database server 'localhost'
Error #1045: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)
500 Internal Server Error - eZDBNoConnectionException

Edited 4: If I use the plain site package, I need to create ezpublish_dev.yml and config db settings, siteaccess, etc. So it works.
