The archive for the assets is very big. It's related to all the ezplatform tarballs available for download

one of the solution could be: create simple bz2 and gz (there are two types) with just the text file 'you can download packages from ezplatform.com' and after the file is created - write a simple script to replace original/aplication/* files with those two files, keeping the filename - with this solution the download feature will work for all, but the files will be just a simple files
