Emoji selector in Online Editor

    XMLWordPrintable

Details

    Description

Since v2.3 we use utf8mb4 which gives us access to the full UTF-8 charset, including emoji. These can be typed easily on mobile, but for users on PCs an emoji selector would help. Maybe not a core demand, but it has its uses, and it's been mentioned on Slack.

Beware: This can't be done on pre-v2.3, or other sites using Mysql with utf8 charset. The utf8mb4 charset is required, only this supports the full UTF-8 range. Without it, Mysql will truncate strings at characters it doesn't understand.

Latest version of Chrome has an emoji selector in its context menu. Windows 10 has it by Win-button + .. If we can let other vendors solve it for us, so much the better.
