The update made in eZContentUpload::publishObject() (remove the creation of the node assignment) has an inpact on eZContentUpload::handleLocalFile() which also call eZContentUpload::publishObject() (as eZContentUpload::handleFile() do).

As a result, all objects created using eZContentUpload::handleLocalFile() are created with no node associated.
