On the redirect page ( url /content/edit/57/f/eng-GB ) you'll get this warning:
Warning: eZContentClass::versionHistoryLimit Nov 01 2012 10:53:19
class integer parameter doesn't match any content class ID
Could you provide the script or a snippet of it that does the steps 1 and 2 ?
This problem seems to be there with any fieldtype, not only ezcountry..
At least I have the same problem with ezxmltext too.
Updating to high severity...
Looks like it might be a problem with content class cache not being cleared in legacy when adding a new class.
Probably requires legacy slot to clear it.
Retested, bug (warning) still persist...
